چکیده

Agriculture, Forest and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector contributes about a quarter of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emission [1] though its contribution is small in Japan [2]. In addition, technologies to reduce GHGs from agriculture sector are not expensive [3]. It is therefore worth reducing GHGs from this sector. It includes soil carbon (C) sequestration and mitigation of methane (CH4) and Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions.

Economic Potential of Greenhouse Gas Emission Reductions: Comparative Role for Soil Sequestration in Agriculture and Forestry

We use the Agricultural Sector Model to analyze the economic potential of soil carbon sequestration as one of several agricultural greenhouse gas emission mitigation strategies, including afforestation. For low incentives on carbon emission savings, agricultural soil carbon sequestration is the most cost-efficient strategy. As incentive levels increase above $50 per ton of carbon equivalent, af...

Greenhouse Gas Fluxes in Tropical and Temperate Agriculture: the Need for a Full-cost Accounting of Global Warming Potentials

Agriculture’s contribution to radiative forcing is principally through its historical release of carbon in soil and vegetation to the atmosphere and through its contemporary release of nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4). The sequestration of soil carbon in soils now depleted in soil organic matter is a well-known strategy for mitigating the buildup of CO2 in the atmosphere. Less well-recogni...

Identifying Carbon Sequestration Hotspots in Semiarid Rangelands (Case study: Baghbazm region of Bardsir city, Kerman province)

Carbon sequestration in rangeland ecosystems has been identified as a suitable strategy to offset greenhouse gas emissions that information of carbon sequestration hotspots is a good tool to improve rangeland management. Objectives for this study were to assessment potential carbon sequestration in various rangeland types, to identify carbon sequestration hotspots and to study the effective fact...
